Artie was a backyard chick to a Veterinarian and his wonderful family in Rockledge Florida. They were surprised to learn later on that he was a rooster and not a hen! They absolutely adored him, but unfortunately roosters weren't allowed in their community.

They reached out to Lemondrop for help, they wanted to be sure he would live a long happy life somewhere safe. We welcomed him to the Lemondrop Farm Family, where he has been happily living with our other rescued birds since 2016.

Update January 2018: Artie has quickly become one of the ruling roosters of the farm! He sits on the perch of authority (the largest branch in the coop) and puts the younger less experienced roosters in their place. Lemondrop wouldn't be the same without our wonderful Artie.

January 2020: Artie lived a full and happy live with the flock at Lemondrop until a horrible wild animal attack that took the lives of all but four of the chicken flock. You can read more about the attack here and here. It broke our hearts to lose Artie. We think of him and miss him daily.
