Gimpy

Gimpy was brought to us in 2015 from a young woman who rescued him from a chicken farm, where three eggs were left in an incubator with the intention of making a traditional Vietnamese dish that required chicken fetuses. He incubated the three eggs too long and they ended up hatching, instead of slaughtering them he gave them to this young lady who contacted Lemondrop for help. She reached out to us to see if we could take them.

We gladly agreed to take all three. Because the eggs hadn't been properly rotated during incubation (because they were intended to be eaten before hatching), when they hatched their legs and necks were deformed. Sadly two of the chicks later died, their deformities were too severe. Chicken farms genetically modify their birds to grow larger than average in a very short amount of time -- this causes their legs to eventually give out because their breasts have been artificially "plumped" larger than Mother Nature intended (typically their legs give out at 8-9 months old). But Gimpy has made it and is quite happy with our flock! He limps and his toes are backwards, but he loves to waddle around the yard and squawk.

Sadly, our beloved Gimpy passed in his sleep in April of 2017. He will be greatly missed.
