Penny

Penny was our first rescue from Georgia, her former owner contacted us saying that she could no longer feed her horse. When our volunteers arrived, Penny was tied to a post just outside a 10x10 barbed wire sand pen with broken glass all over the ground. She was a walking skeleton, had hardly any water, and a couple chunks of pineapple left in her food bowl.

We had to all in extra volunteers to help us get her loaded. She was nearly incoherent because she was so starved and dehydrated. After 10 hours, we finally got her onto the trailer.

It didn't take long for us to figure out she had been badly beaten at some point in her life. She had a deep gash on her leg, and spooked at the slightest noise (even the click of a camera lens). After two years of intense rehab she finally reached a normal weight and became more well adjusted to human interaction.

After the devastation of Hurricane Michael, Lemondrop's barns and shelters were destroyed. Penny and her companion pony Flash, were moved to a permanent  home where they can live out their lives in peace together and be well cared for.
