Tico

One of our more recent residents is Tico, he joined us around August of 2018. Tico was rescued post Hurricane Irma, someone found him sitting dazed and confused in a front yard. One of our loyal supporters took him in and nursed him back to health, then eventually asked if we could take him in as a permanent resident. We were happy to do so!

He is a big talker, and loves to whistle back and forth with Munchie. It didn't take long for all of our volunteers to fall in love with Tico's exquisite beauty and playful personality. He particularly loves one volunteer and is always 'clucking' asking for her to give kisses, he then proceeds to nibble softly and returns them.

Eventually Tico has merged with the rest of our indoor flock (Happy and Munchie), and is soooo much happier to have some company! He gets along with them very well, and loves the time they spend out of the cage everyday, flying around their 200 square foot flying space.

In November of 2019, Lemondrop took in Stoney, a beautiful 34 year old male Blue Crown Conure, who Tico instantly bonded with. It was at this point that we realized that Tico was a  "her" and not a "him". Tico and Stoney are now cage mates, and live together in a large habitat, often playing tug of war over toys, and sharing pistachios as treats.

In late 2020 Stoney passed away with Tico and the volunteer he had bonded to beside him. While his passing was very peaceful, we all miss him. Tico moved into a new cage with our young Green Cheek conure named Zephyr. We were hoping he would distract her from the loss of Stoney and he did his job well! They spend all of their time together now, frequently playing, preening and cuddling together.

We post about them often on our Facebook page, so be sure to follow us there for all the daily updates!
