Update #2: Irma Recovery
It has been one week since our first request for help recovering from Hurricane Irma, and we have reached $800 of our $2,000 goal -- only $1,200 until we can give our equine proper shelter from the elements and any upcoming storms.
A very special thank you goes to The Woodmen of America (Shanna at the local chapter) for pledging $500, and to Suzanne one of our newest supporters for donating $300. We cannot express our gratitude, thank you for your giving hearts and for caring about these beautiful animals.
Modern Woodmen of America has pledged to donate $500 towards the replacement of our horse shelter, and is challenging individuals, supporters and the local community to match their donation. With the support of the local community, we hope to reach $2000, which would allow us to purchase a shipping container -- this would provide a permanent extremely safe shelter for all of our equine that would survive nearly any emergency weather event.
In the past twenty or so years, Tallahassee hasn't been hit by any major hurricanes, until Hermine last year and now Irma. Already another hurricane named Maria is churning in the Atlantic, and has the potential of following Irma's path. This new trend is why we feel that a container/barn is the safest long term solution for our horses and equine to remain safe during storms.
We have done extended research on shipping containers in the past, the US military uses them for protection and shelter during times of war and in the Middle East. We looked at some of the pictures of damage done to the islands hit by Irma when it was a category 5 hurricane, and some of the only structures that survived were shipping containers.
If you have the means and passion and you support the work that we do with the animals, please PLEASE consider helping us and SHARE with all your friends on social media. CHALLENGE people you know to raise support for these beautiful horses and donkeys who have been rescued locally and so desperately need shelter. TELL your friends about Lemondrop and the vital work we do! And don't forget to SUBSCRIBE on the home page to stay current on all Lemondrop news!
Every $1 would make a difference for us and help us protect the horses.
