Did you know Lemondrop has a Waste Diversion Program?
As many of you know, Lemondrop is all about environmental sustainability and going as "green" as possible. What you may not know is that Lemondrop has a hugely successful Waste Diversion program that diverts approximately 50 tons of organic waste from the landfill each year.
How do we accomplish this?
Lemondrop has partnered with local farms, businesses and store owners to take their organic waste which would ordinarily get thrown away, and instead put it to better use.
Volunteers collect this waste daily, sort it into two categories; usable food for the animals, or compost. It's a messy (often slimy and smelly) job but our volunteers do it faithfully!
The compost gets used for our gardens, to fertilize and enrich the soil at the Sanctuary. Nothing goes to waste.
Our Waste Diversion program has been in effect since 2012, if you are interested in becoming a part of Lemondrop's Waste Diversion Program, please contact us for more information.
