Stressful August but still moving forward.
Hello everyone. We haven't been online much this last week, even to post the Community work or photos of the animals. It's been very busy. To start I want to send a special thank you to everyone who has helped us this last month by volunteering, donations and support. Phyllis, Ray, Jeff, Michelle, Jaime, Angie, Robert, Alyssa, Gavin, David, Skylar, Bill, Laura, Oscar, Matthew, Paul, Cheryl, Dana, Kate -- I'm sure we are missing some people who have donated. Please forgive any omission!
We have one of the donated vehicles with us now, and are working to repair it so it will run. We are still waiting on our friend who donated time to pick up the second donated vehicle. Our current vehicle is still not repaired. Earlier this week one of our long term canine residents passed. Teddy was a Brussels Griffon who was rescued two days after July 4th 2015, he was found hot and dirty on the side of the road by our Volunteers. It took some time to rehab him, get him cleaned and taken care of. At the time the vet estimated he was already elderly. He lived happily with us, a grumpy but very sweet little old man. He had some minor medical and other issues over time - he didn't have many teeth, we had to be careful to make sure he didn't get bladder infections and he had pretty extreme separation anxiety. Overall he was very happy with us. The last month or so, our on site Volunteers noted a sudden decline. This last week he experienced his first seizure, then he passed in his sleep. We believe he was somewhere over 20 years old. His passing hit our on site Volunteers hard, and he is very much missed. We will be starting the Lemondrop Wishlist soon, which is our newest way to reach the local community and provide for people's needs. Due to the things we've been dealing with this week, it has been delayed, but we hope to start our first Wish post in the next week, there will be a week or two delay in distributing the items gifted to the recipients. The community outreach is going well, we are sorting and passing along such a massive abundance of food and household items each week that we can barely keep up with sorting and delivery. Influx of cash donations is always a struggle, things are extremely tight still, and we are barely making our minimum bills on a monthly basis. To add to our stress, our yearly fundraiser with Panhandle Ponies car club we just learned, has selected a different nonprofit this year. We are happy for them, but it puts an additional unexpected strain on our already non existent cash flow to keep us running. Thank you all for your support. Please remind your friends and family to become $5 per month sponsors to help us continue the vital work we do.
