UPDATE: Irma Recovery Challenge
Modern Woodmen of America has pledged to donate $500 towards the replacement of our horse shelter, and is challenging individuals, supporters and the local community to match their donation.
With the support of the local community, we hope to reach $2000, which would allow us to purchase a shipping container -- this would provide a permanent extremely safe shelter for all of our equine that would survive nearly any emergency weather event.
We have done extended research on shipping containers in the past, the US military uses them for protection and shelter during times of war and in the Middle East. We looked at some of the pictures of damage done to the islands hit by Irma when it was a category 5 hurricane, and some of the only structures that survived were shipping containers.
We believe this is the most cost-effective and safest option for our horses.
This is an example of a container that someone has transformed into a barn.
If you have the means and you support the work that we do with the animals, please PLEASE consider helping us and SHARE with all your friends. CHALLENGE people you know to raise support for these beautiful horses and donkeys who have been rescued locally and so desperately need shelter. TELL your friends to support Lemondrop on #GivingTuesday.
Every $1 would make a difference for us and help us protect the horses.
