New Arrival Luke - Facebook & More!

This past week has been even more hectic than normal for us. Monday January 8th, we took in a sheep who was having a rough pregnancy. She went into labor shortly after we put her in our isolation pen/shelter. After several hours of labor and no visible results we decided it was time to intervene. The first baby was a breach birth (it wasn't in the correct position to be born), we had to turn the baby and assist with the delivery. She ended up having twins, the female (the breach birth) we called Leia, and the male we named Luke. All three were weak from the rough pregnancy and birth, we worked diligently through the week with them, but sadly we lost the mother that Friday. Leia showed signs of neurological damage, and we worked hard to get her up and walking normally, but sadly she passed less than 48 hours after the mother despite our work through the night with her, when she slipped into seizures and passed shortly after.

Thankfully, little Luke has made it so far. He has taken the bottle well and has gotten much bigger in the last week. He is currently being “Mothered” by none other than our resident Hannah, whom he picked out as Mommy the first night we brought him inside. He sleeps beside her and she cleans his face after he drinks his bottle. We are so grateful for his health so far and are praying he will continue to grow strong.

If you happen to have extra baby blankets, old towels or baby bottles laying around we could very much use them for Luke's care! If you'd like to help us with milk donations, please contact us directly.
