Christmastime is Here

Merry Christmas everyone!

We are so grateful to those who have been so generous to us this holiday season.

A special thank you to Tractor Supply Co for their donation to help us begin rebuilding (they donated last year post hurricane Irma as well).

It has been a very stressful and hectic few weeks for us. We have just this last two weeks begun to deal with the physical damage from the hurricane. Our full time volunteers as well as many of the animals will be dealing with the emotional trauma of living through the storm for some time. If you have been following us on Facebook, then you know that we struggled with, but eventually came to the conclusion that some of our larger resident animals needed to be placed since all of our shelters were destroyed. Penny, Flash, Hammy, Bert, Earnie and several of our smaller pigs found loving forever homes.

To our heartbreak and dismay, we had to confiscate Hammy from his foster family a month after he had been placed there. We won’t be going into detail, the pictures speak for themselves. After this incident, we decided that he will not be moving to a foster home again in the future.

A second heartbreak occurred, when we finally began to sort through our destroyed food storage shelter. One of our most beloved resident cats, Raven, couldn’t be found prior to the storm (we brought all the cats indoors to be safe) and apparently he had taken refuge in the food storage shelter. He was crushed when it collapsed. Fortunately we believe it was instantaneous, as his skull appeared to be crushed. We all miss him desperately.

Our needs are still great. The damage cost was approximately $35,000, we have gotten a fraction of that in donations. We are very grateful to those who have opened their hearts and have been willing and able to donate to help us. Thank you so much.

A special thank you to our faithful supporters; Jaime & Family, Darryl & Virgina, Phyllis, Suzanne, Maria, Roy, Robert, Terry, Tasha, Dot, Anne, Billy, Shaunda, Jenny, Kenley, Kevin, Janet, Cindy, Joanna, Shirley & Family, Cynthia, Patricia. And to those who are just now learning about our needs and are just beginning to support us. Thank you. Without your love and giving hearts we couldn’t continue the work we do.

All the love in our hearts to our volunteers, who help in a variety of ways, both small and great at our two locations (both Pomona, CA and Tallahassee, FL). Mark, Tim, Alice, Justin, Jailene, David, Elizabeth. Merry Christmas to you all, and lots of Love from Lemondrop.
