We are in the last 7 weeks of 2019! 😱 Can you believe it!?
This time last year, we were still reeling from Hurricane Michael, scrambling to place the most vulnerable animals before the cold hit, and saving what items we could from the piles of damaged huts and animal shelters.
This year has brought us so many good things, along with bad. We gained so many amazing supporters. We lost beloved animals to old age, and wild animal attacks. But Lemondrop has survived.
For the entirety of 2019 we have been focusing on clean up and repair from Hurricane Michael. Finally, just this week, all the trees are now gone AND cleaned up. The leftover damage is all contained in specific areas, awaiting the money to afford the Junk people to come and clear it away.
We have Hammy and Hansel safely put in their own separate pen (so they can't keep trying to break the dogs out - lol). We placed many of the large animals this year, with the goal of making sure that we could fully provide for any animals that we have in our care. Flash, Penny, Nestor, Silhouette and Dopey all found homes in the last year. As well as all of the puppies that we had taken in during the months immediately prior to the hurricane.
Even with all the huge steps forward that we made, we still need to make more. In 2020 we need to build a new dog pen, the temporary one we put up after the hurricane is quickly deteriorating. We need to have the rest of the hurricane damage piles cleaned up and removed. The volunteer housing still has damage from the original tree that fell during the hurricane, the roofing is bent and the interior ceiling panel has partially fallen down. The greatest need is a true barn for the animals, we have been left with three small damaged shelters, which are rapidly failing. We so desperately want to erect a real barn for the animals to take refuge in from the rain, cold and heat.
This year, please remember Lemondrop for your end of the year giving. Both on #GivingTuesday and beyond. Nonprofits are supposed to receive 30% of their funding in the last quarter of the year. This has never been the case for Lemondrop, our year end donations always drop or vanish altogether, and we end up struggling through December and January. Please help this year be different. Add Lemondrop as your charity on #AmazonSmile, share us with your friends, or become a monthly sponsor. If you'd like to donate something we need, or sponsor an upcoming project, please contact us directly and we can talk more about what specifically we need.
We only made it this year because of all of you, our family. You have laughed with us, cried with us and supported us when we needed it most. Thank you for all of your support and love. We love you more than we can possibly express. ❤️
